Located just north of 8 on Center, the SoDo 4 renovation project featured four existing single family homes. Historically significant, the four brick structures were built in the early 1900's as housing for engineers of the V & T railroad, which ran along Holcomb Avenue.
Our vision for this project included contemporary interior redesign of the spaces while preserving the original exterior personality of the buildings. The SoDo 4 homes leave a small footprint, are energy efficient and are affordable to a person who wants to experience the changing urbanscape of Center Street. The homes incorporate big city style such as exposed brick walls that are nearly one hundred years old, a sleeping loft with drop down stairs, a front deck to enjoy the urban vibe on Center Street and a private courtyard for more intimate moments. In our continuing commitment to utilize green building principles, the interiors have reclaimed douglas fir flooring, dual pane/low e windows, extra insulation, energy star rated appliances and energy efficient lighting. With vaulted corrugated metal ceilings and other space saving features the SoDo 4 homes feel larger than their relatively tight envelope.
The exterior has drought tolerant landscape, recycled material for decking and pathways, and raised bed organic gardenspaces for each homeowner. An apple and pear orchard surround a rose garden peacefully situated between the homes. The rear common area and private dog park feature several evergreen and maple trees. Each homeowner also has an off-street parking space.
The site is located in the SoDo (south of downtown) district within walking distance to several award winning businesses such as the Stremmel Art Gallery, Silver Peak Brewery, A Salon 7, Rose's Cafe, Vassar St. Shops and many other eclectic urban establishments. SoDo 4 is on the public busline and is within one mile of the whitewater park, skating rink and the new city plaza near city hall.
